Silver Cross Strollers
Named after the street where its inventor founded the business in the 19th century,
Silver Cross was the brainchild of British inventor William Wilson. By the 1920s and 1930s, this well established company was crowned the number one baby carriage for English royals. In fact, its very first carriage was supplied to the Princess Royal.
During World War II, the Air Ministry requisitioned the main section of the Silver Cross factory, which began producing millions of aircraft parts for the war effort. This experience was subsequently applied to production methods for the carriages. The traditional plywood was replaced with aluminum, and a lighter conveyance was born!
Throughout the 1950s, the top baby carriage manufacturer continued as a family run business. In 1964, Silver Cross continued its technological advances by introducing the first chromium-plating plant. Silver Cross in 1977 celebrated its centenary by flying customers and buyers from around the world in its new centenary aircraft. As part of the celebrations, Silver Cross also presented Princess Anne with a baby carriage. Following its introduction in the 1980s, the Wayfarer model became Britain's best selling pushchair, selling over 3000 pieces a week for more than a decade.
Between 1990 and 2002, Harrods was home to the re-launch of the famous Balmoral carriage. During the past few years, such stars such as Catherine Zeta Jones, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss and Brooke Shields have all become proud Silver Cross owners. And, the most famous baby in the world has just taken possession of her very own fleet of Silver Cross prams.
While Shiloh Jolie Pitt will undoubtedly on some days enjoy the unsurpassable comfort and views of a ride in the iconic Balmoral pram, on other days she has the option of indulging in ultimate urban three-wheeler style in the Silver Cross S4. With its rugged good looks, anodized aluminum tubing and sleek black and chrome finish, the S4 has become the ultimate cool accessory for Brad and Angelina.
In 2002, owner Alan Halsall restructured the Silver Cross company. A year later saw the arrival of the new Lifestyle Collection, which included the multi-award winning 3-in-1 sleepover. Today the Lifestyle Collection features pushchairs, travel systems, combinations and in-car safety. Silver Cross products, which have garnered dozens of prestigious design and safety awards, are available throughout the world, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the good ole US of A.
