About Stokke Baby Products

The first products ever created by Stokke, begun in 1932 in Norway, were armchairs and bus seats! In a small workshop, founders Bjarne MØller and Georg Stokke filled their first order for twenty bus seats for a local bus manufacturer.

In the 1940s, Stokke was one of the first furniture companies in Norway to use external designers. Stokke in 1958 introduced one of Europe’s first adjustable recliners, which featured a fixed seat whose back was angled for maximum comfort. The company’s design philosophy was to create modern and functional chairs that provided a sense of well being for the user through both movement and variation—in other words, furniture that had great looks and a fabulous function that focused on bodily relaxation.

For more than 60 years Stokke has worked in tandem with some of Scandinavia’s most important furniture designers. Today their products combine function with well-being while maintaining a distinctive look.
